Beauty Trend: Sleek, Straight And Shiny Hair

Straight, sleek and shiny hair has been showing up all over the Spring 2012 runway shows .  The look is perfect for going from day to night because it is conservative but chic.  Slicking hair back into a low ponytail is one way to try it as long as it is tightly pulled back, straight and shiny.

Renato Campora for Frédéric Fekkai created a simple and sleek look to contrast with Marchesa's Spring 2012 collection.  Campora used a flat iron first then made a side part, pulled half back into a low ponytail and wrapped the other half around the ponytail or into a fishtail braid.  Fekkai Coiff Nonchalant Piecing And Forming Wax was used to make the hair shine and Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray finished off the look

Neil Moodie for Bumble & Bumble created this flat and shiny look at the Ruffian show by flat-ironing the hair, pulling it back into a tight braid and putting on Bumble & Bumble Shine On Finishing Spray 

At Carolina Herrera, hairstylist Orlando Pita prepped hair with Moroccanoil Light, applied Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream to keep it sleek, blow-dried hair straight, put it into a low and simple ponytail and finished with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray

At Donna Karan, hairstylist Eugene Souleiman said about the look he was channeling, "There is no softness here at all.  It's about extreme straight, high gloss and shine.  It looks almost synthetic- I wanted it to look hyper-real."

A shiny and tightly pulled back ponytail was the look at Derek Lam's Spring 2012 show.  Hairstylist, Orlando Pita used the designer's inspiration, Richard Neutra, an architect who uses clean and simple lines and then went on to create a simple and clean look.  Pita is a fan of the ponytail because, "It's universal and works from day, with jeans, to night, with a ball gown."  I agree!

Chanel Takes Over Harrods

Harrods in London has filled their 23 windows with a curated pop-up shop and installation celebrating the late designer Coco Chanel.  Featured is Karl Lagerfeld's Fall/Winter 2011 collection that was inspired by an "enchanted forest" fairytale theme.  Harrods stuck true to that concept by placing lifelike animals  (some even dressed in Chanel), flowers and leaves, a crazy mirrored wall, super-sized versions of 2011 pieces, feathered masks and mannequins standing on fluffy clouds.  Also shown is a preview of exclusive Chanel fine jewelry and watches and beauty products as well.  However, not only the windows were turned into a magical forest, three floors of Harrods is decorated and features all of Chanel's Fall/Winter 2011 collection.  The House of Chanel describes what is featured as, "enchanted bestiary, fabeled mise en scenes and a subtle layering of exquisitely refined fabrics".  On the third floor, Une Promenade (also the name of the installation) is an eight room installation showcasing milestones in Chanel's history.
