Christope Decarnin and Balmain Part Ways

Christope Decarnin and Balmain Part Ways

One of my favorite designers, Christophe Decarnin, is parting ways with the French label Balmain.  His absence at the most recent Balmain fashion show sparked rumors he was in a mental institution or had been doing drugs, and although that was never confirmed, it has been said that his absence from the show and departure with the brand are related.  Decarnin has been the creative director since 2007 and is most known for his ripped t-shirts and jeans, sequined motorcycle jackets, mini dresses, and all-around punk glam and embellished style.  A representative for the line said "work differences" were the cause for the split but did not further embellish.  CEO Alain Hivelin said, "...Christophe Decarnin's work with the house's design team contributed to the success that the brand has enjoyed in recent years".  A replacement will be announced soon and there is no word on what Decarnin will be doing yet.
Some of Decarnin's designs from recent years:

Spring 2010 RTW
Fall 2009 RTW
Spring 2011 RTW
The infamous gold sequin dress from Fall 2010 RTW that was featured on 7 different magazine covers!

  1. This actually breaks my heart. He did so much for Balmain and for the past five years his collections for them have always been favourites of mine and I've always looked forward to seeing them. Wahhhhh!
