TOMMY and Tommy Hilfiger (updates)

Tommy Hilfiger has premiered his new Spring 2011 collection called TOMMY this past week.  The aesthetic still maintains the preppy and all-American Tommy Hilfiger collection vibe, but it is upped to a more playful and colorful notch and downed to a little on the price tags.  "For spring I love the mix of pattern on pattern and the new pops of color-neon" , Hilfiger said. The collection is representative of a well-traveled girl who mixes her daily individual style with treasures obtained in far-away places; she adds global flare by mixing her signature preppy style with more prints, longer skirts, or very short-short shorts.  She adds a pop of color over her more muted attire with a neon scarf or belt.  And denim for her, is not just denim, it is denim in a beautiful blush color.
The collection sounds very promising for a budget range of knits beginning at $29 and denim beginning at $69
Here's the collection:

Your basics but different: a more vibrant long-sleeve tee, a colorful and patterned scarf, a delicate shade of pink on the short shorts, colorful bangles, white loafers, and a muted bag and belt to balance everything out
Did she travel to the Sacred City of Kandy in Sri Lanka?
Lord Buddha

Your typical nautical and necessary navy v-neck sweater, but brown-belted and with a hot pink blouse beneath it.  The short skirt is ruffled and neon yellow.  The black loafers balance out some of the bright colors and the clutch is a perfect mix of well-travelet yet prepster at heart
Did she travel to La Paz, Bolivia to gaze at the colorful artwork in the museums?

The classic cream-colored cotton and cable-knit sweater but with a more scooped neckline and layering a bright yellow cami, then paired atop a colorfully patterned maxi skirt, with a brown leather satchel to accessorize
Did she travel to the warm floral air belonging to Capri?

A navy and white nautical sweater that is enhanced with pink cuffs and a bright scarf of reds and pinks, the patterned shorts are in a classic navy and white, and she added simple black loafers and an ethnic red bag for pop

Did she travel to the colorful streets of Italy?

I really think that Tommy Hilfiger nailed his inspiration with the world-traveled prepster description.  And love that this is all affordable!  Kudos to Mr. Hilfiger, he has been making a comeback!

Now for the menswear...Hilfiger wanted to mix a man's nautical style with bursts of neon colors and take  the traditional preppy look up a notch by using color--blocking  on shorts and bathing suits and dying Oxfords.  There is plaid, camo, and even a few pinstripe sweaters.

A nautical tee paired with cami shorts and a bright yellow bag

Dark wash denim on muted denim paired with your classic nautical creme colored vest that has correlating red and navy stripes around it.  He is carrying a murse and wearing brightly dyed yellow oxfords
A brightly colored-blocked swimming suit paired with a pinstripe cardigan and classic white Converses.

It seems that the men are world travelers too, what do you think?
Which collection is your favorite, menswear or womenswear?
(p.s.  My vote goes towards the ladies!  Thought the line was brought together and had more flow than the mens).

As part of a fundraiser celebrating the centennial of the fashion periodical Women's Wear Daily, Hilfiger  donated a personally customized 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer  to be auctioned off for charity.
There are wood-grain panels outside and on the inside the seats are covered in Hilfiger's signature argyle plaid (navy blue inflected with red), the steering wheel is blue cowhide with red leather stitching.  Aah, classic Hilfiger.  Even on the side there is a "Tommy Hilfiger 25th Anniversary" pinstripe.  The car will benefit the charity Millennium Promise, which is a non-profit organization that aims to "end extreme poverty in our lifetime ."
Here's the Hilfiger prize!
