Spring 2011 Fashion Week Beauty Trends

Fashion Week's Spring 2011 Trends:

Bright Matte Lips
An orange/apricot color at Marc by Marc Jacobs
Fuschia  at Diane von Furstenberg
Orange at Marni
 Bright Pink Jil Sander

What Matte Lipsticks should you try?
Nars released a matte long-lasting lipstick this past spring and there have been only positive things said about it!  It doesn't wear off and doesn't dry out your lips, two very important things when it comes to finding any lipstick!

Mini Trend
Do you want to master giving yourself a French manicure?  Well, YSL has the answer.  They have come out with a duo of nail pens in a light pink and white color that come out with a gloss finish.  The nail polish trend was also used during the 3.1 Philip Lim and Jason Wu Spring 2011 shows.

Blumarine Spring 2011

Words that come to mind when I look at the Blumarine Spring 2011 show were leopard, seventies, glamorous extravagance, and Barbie.  The show was amazing and showed sexy silhouettes, soft fabrics, lots of leopard in bright colors (like pink, turquoise, and mint) and neutrals, fringe, and lots of glamour.
Mini turquoise leopard mini with chiffon sleeves, a matching fringe bag, gold bangles and brown sandals
A long, slim-fitting apricot colored leopard dress with a matching scarf and bag
(My favorite!) A bright pastel pink leather jacket with matching studded and fringed bag, matching colored sandals and bracelets, with a tight pink leopard mini
A flowing mint leopard dress with matching fringe bag and sandals
Leopard belly shirt with smaller print leopard pants paired with lots of gold accessories
A bright white to camel ombre mini with matching suede camel-colored sandals
This brightly colored caftan exudes 70's glamorous

Who didn't love this show??

Dolce & Gabanna Spring 2011

Stefano Gabanna and Domenico Dolce nailed the floral theme in their 2011 spring collection.  Not just in one floral pattern, but about six, and each pattern was unique in its coloring and sizing.  The designers mixed, not matched the patterns and therefore created a funky vibe onstage.  There were also checkered patterns, bright bloomers, gingham head scarves, and my personal favorite, Disney themed t-shirts under a few floral tops. There was a trellis behind the runway covered in real peonies, roses, hydrangeas, ferns, and ivy which just added to the garden effect of the show.
Long sleeved floral button down paired with a floral mini, big green tote, and pink satin sandals with flowers attached at the ankle buckle
Floral t-shirt, patent-leather bright red bloomers paired with big pink sunglasses and red ankle wedges
Little denim apron covering a pocketed gingham skirt and yellow wedge sandals
Matching floral jacket and shorts with a Snow White t-shirt underneath and paired with a denim bag and closed-toe red wedge sandals
I love the boldness of this bright floral jumpsuit accessorized with a floral bandana and red and white gingham bag

Spring 2011 Continues

Chris Benz
Inspired by 'Americans in Paris', Chris Benz created a colorful and floral 60's style collection.  It was filled with every color of the rainbow and then some muted grays and browns.  There were retro pantsuits, full skirts, flowing blouses, chunky knits, cigarette pants, and floral cotton prints that were all accessorized with chunky platform mules (designed by Alejandro Ingelmo), candy colored nail polish, and hoop earrings.

Matthew Williamson
I loved Williamson's inspiration for his spring collection, "...a girl marooned on a deserted island.  She has her Western wardrobe, and over time she becomes one with nature, picking up organic textures and materials."  You could see his inspiration flowing through the collection as it began with a plain palette then advanced to brighter colors and different textures (of course my favorites were at the end of the show, colorful and textured).
In love with this gold, peacock skirt
Patterned mini dress paired with gold wedges
Gorgeous evening gown with bright colors on top and flowing into a darker and floral pattern on bottom

Jason Wu
Inspired by Brazilian artist, Beatriz Milhazes, who is known for her brightly colored creative prints, Rene Gruau, the French fashion illustrator and Old World 40's glamour.  Wu showcased tons of sheer blouses with bows at the neck fitted with high-waisted pants or skirts, perfectly tailored coat dresses, striped knits, floor-length chiffon gowns, all which were completed with his newly debuted handbag and shoe  collection which were made with contrasting leathers and in lady-like designs.  Wu perfected the show with a cobalt blue serpentine runway. (Look at pictures)
Very sheer white blouse with exaggerated bow paired with slouchy khaki colored pants and a clutch
A clear inspiration from a piece by Rene Gruau...
Wu used turbans throughout his collection, but in the case stripes replaced the checkered pattern
Purple chiffon evening gown (with a sheer top, of course) and a feathered neckline

The pattern was very much so inspired by Beatriz Milhazes, except Wu constructed the patterns in a more put together manner than this one...

More Spring 2011

L.A.M.B
Designer Gwen Stefani made her Spring 2011 collection ALL about prints.  The vibrant mix of prints were influenced by African tribal style and the plaid prints were all Gwen style.  The collection was filled with ruffles on dresses and tops, printed handbags, bustiers, plaid pants (tight and baggy), strappy platform pumps, bright beaded necklaces, plaid blazers, and so many more funky mixes.

Betsey Johnson
Talk about an colorful and eclectic mix of clothes.  All models had on super bright makeup and messy hair, then there were tiaras, sailor caps, Ride Me chokers, bike chain necklaces, striped thigh highs, 80's style prom dresses with layers of taffeta, funky biker wear complete with bodysuit, just a never ending show filled with surprises.  Of course, it is Betsey Johnson, who came out after the show riding a bike
Classic Betsey...before she did her infamous kart wheel
This model actually rode the skateboard down the runway...until she tripped!
Love this skeletal bodysuit with a bicycle chain necklace, motorcycle helmet, and white jeweled headband
Betsey Johnson shows aren't complete without some time of florals.  One was a two piece the other an old school dress paired with bright red rain boots
My favorite princess two piece all ruffled up with a tiara and diamond studded heels

Anna Sui
The backdrop of the runway was little home amongst a wheat field.  The clothes exuded a free spirited girl from a peasant home life.  There was a lot of patchwork and paisley in all shades of brown, light blue, burnt red, ash, slate, and lilac.  Sui said, "This spring I was inspired by Joni Mitchell, Thomas Eakins, Little House on the Prairie, Neil Young, Andrew Wyeth, Holly Hobbie, Ladies of the Canyon, Winslow Homer...the poetry and romanticism of the American prairie."  All of that was clearly demonstrated in this show with silk paisley, handkerchief skirt bottoms, fringed ponchos, cream lace shorts, apron dresses, bell bottoms, printed bandanas, and endless chiffon.  Everything was accessorized with some type of feather rope necklace, wood, turquoise, and bone beads, feathered and dried grass headbands.
Denim jacket, printed shorts, bustier, beaded choker, leather bag, blue ankle socks and sandal platforms, topped off with round hippie style sunglasses
Beautiful printed chiffon dress with a poncho and feather necklace on top and paired with suede boots
Blue and black ankle length dress
Lace cream dress with a low waist, feather and beaded necklace, leather boots, and funky headband
